Rau Paenga is supporting the Ministry of Justice on the three-year remediation of the Auckland District Court Building.

The Auckland District Court at 65-69 Albert Street was built in 1985 and provides 28,000m2 of floor space within a five-level podium structure and nine-storey tower above.

The building houses 28 courtrooms - 10% of all courtrooms in New Zealand and 33% of all courtrooms in Auckland City.

The scope of the remediation project will focus on installing new elements to improve the resilience of the concrete structure. Physical work is expected to start on site in 2024, procured through an ECI contract. The 28 courts are critical to the justice system and will remain operational throughout an anticipated three-year programme.

The remediation project will be managed to allow the Ministry of Justice to also instruct, where effective to do so, the replacement of remaining areas of original building plant and services now reaching end-of-life
