With much of the central city needing to be rebuilt following the quakes, Christchurch City Council and the Government took the opportunity to revisit the transport network.
Prioritising streets for different users. The goal was to make it easier to get around for all modes of transport. Ōtākaro, the forerunner to Rau Paenga, delivered the Government’s contribution to the roading programme, overseeing the redesign of four major city streets.
